VAME TEACHER OF THE YEAR

This year VAME was pleased to announce Janet Jennings as the VAME Teacher of the Year. Congratulations to Janet for all of her hard work and dedication to Career and Technical Education. We would also like to thank the sponsors of this award, Johnson & Wales University.

TEACHER OF THE YEAR PROCESS
The following procedures outline the process for selecting the VAME Teacher of the Year (TOY). The VAME Past President will coordinate the TOY selection process and judges.
NOMINATIONS
Nominations may be submitted to the VAME Board beginning at the summer conference for the following year up to the date established by the Board. The Past President will notify all nominees of the required documentation that must be completed and submitted electronically.
CRITERIA
The following is a list of the criteria TOY nominees must meet:
* Has been a marketing teacher-coordinator for a minimum of three years
* Is a current VAME member
* Is not currently serving on the VAME Board
* Is involved in every aspect of instruction, coordination and/or community involvement, and program administration
Note: Past VAME Teacher of the Year winners are ineligible. Previously selected area or regional finalists are eligible.
FINALIST SELECTION
The Past President will collect all nominations and the documentation to be submitted to a selection committee appointed by the VAME Board. It is encouraged that the committee be made up of members of the VA DECA Foundation, retired Marketing teachers, business leaders, and/or sponsors of the TOY award.
Each member of the committee will receive a copy of all TOY nominee documentation. A rating sheet will be scored on each nominee by each committee member based on a numerical scale. These rating sheets will be sent to the Past President, who will then compile the scores on each TOY nominee. The three nominees with the highest scores will be chosen as finalists to be evaluated by the TOY judges.
The Past President will notify the three finalists who will later be announced to VAME members in the newsletter.
FINAL TOY SELECTION
A panel of up to three VAME retirees will make up the TOY judges team. The judges visit the school of each of the finalists and will score them on pre-determined criteria.
The school visits must be completed prior to the DECA International Career Development Conference on that school year. The judges determine the winner and the name is forwarded to the VAME Past President, who will report the winner to the Board.
PRESENTATION OF THE TOY AWARD
The three TOY finalists will be recognized at the summer conference and the VAME Teacher of the Year will be announced.
